Fantastic Mr. Fox Premiere

Jill and I got to go to the Fantastic Mr. Fox premiere at the Mann Chinese Theatre. Before the film, we got treated to a special surprise. Wes Anderson came out to introduce the film! He's a lot taller in person. It doesn't stop there though. He also brought up his favorites Jason Schwartzman, Eric Anderson and BILL MURRAY! I nearly flipped out seeing Bill Murray. You know, like how fans faint and cry at Michael Jackson concerts? Ok, maybe not that crazy but it was awesome. So anyways, that was a nice surprise and the film was equally great. It made me laugh the most out of any of his films. Well adapted story. Beautifully and meticulously composed. Great voice cast. Techniques unseen in stop motion animation (granted I haven't seen EVERY single stop motion in the world but you get my point, you see it and say "damn, I wish I shot that"). All that pre-controversy just goes to show everyone got pushed a bit harder to make a great piece that fans are thankful for. Go see it when it comes out.

I was just sitting at work looking through images and came upon the original Star Wars posters. God.... what amazing posters. So then I thought of Indiana Jones and looked those up. Man....so awesome. It's official, when I die and it WILL be written in my will, I would like a custom poster of me with all the main characters in my life, where I've been and the adventures I went through summed up in one monumental poster and sealed over my grave. Not just any style of poster though. A poster done by Drew Struzan, the man behind the poster magic for all of these films.

Daniel Johnston Show

I had the great pleasure of going to see Daniel Johnston perform last night at The Music Box compliments of mi amigo, JR. His solo act is the best. He rocks a tiny guitar that looks more like a ukulele on him. It helps make music become a backdrop and his story have more emphasis. It feels honest. A band joined him for the second half of the show which made everything feel diluted and flashy, over powering his lyrics. Definitely, not as intimate.

If you haven't yet, you should watch his documentary, The Devil and Daniel Johnston. His art is also held in high regard. All worth checking out.

3 Apples Hello Kitty Show

I attended the launch party for the 3 Apples Hello Kitty Show yesterday at Royal/T. Some interesting pieces from the likes of Biskup, Choe, Baseman and a ton more. Definitely some interesting outfits. Cosplay was ridiculous. Hands down favorite piece was Friends With You's Hello Kitty hot air balloon. It was the only interactive piece there. You sat in a hot air balloon with controls that let you go up and down. It made for a good laugh. You can get your fill of kitty consumerism till November 15. On a side note, Kimora Lee is an absolute giant of a human being. Remember that giant in the movie, Big Fish? It's on that level son!

Beautiful Losers

I was able to catch a showing of Beautiful Losers yesterday. The director was there to host a little Q&A session but the most bangin part of it was the director, editor and Money Mark was there (he scored the film). Very awesome surprise, especially seeing Money Mark.

I liked how the director stated it was more a visual essay because it certainly isn't a documentary. It follows artists from when they seemed like they were nothing to where they are now. Mike Mills, Margart Kilgallen, Ed Templeton, Barry McGee, Chris Johanson and more (those were my favorites). The most moving part of the whole thing is seeing Margaret Kilgallen alive on screen doing her thing. I absolutely love her work.

I'm a chaotic organizer. I've decided to let it just happen and stop fighting it with organizing tools. Google calender has helped me significantly, though I don't keep up with it too much. I don't abide by it but I allow it to recommend things that need to be done, if that makes any sense. Ideas are spread all over in singles and duplicates on my computer and on tiny to medium sized pieces of paper. And in other people's brain. Ill say something, forget what I said and have to ask. Medication needed? probably. In the end, I find multiple desks full of my crap. It all still makes sense to me though. I like physically cleaning it all up at the end. It makes everything feel wrapped up and I'm ready for the next thing.

This is stage one. I overtake the conference table.

This is sort of old news for techies but I just recently got one of these hard drive adapters. It takes 2.5 and 3.5 internal hard drives that you can just slide in. Benefit: internal hard drives are ridiculously cheaper (I got a 1TB drive for $100!). The base was about $60. Not a bad one time fee to save a butt load on future hard drives. I'm sure I'll eat through this disk and need another soon. So if you require lots of space, look into one of these.

Limited Dunny Kicks

So Brian asks me one night what size shoe I wear. I say 10.5 and he asks me if I want some limited dunny kicks because they don't fit him. They were given to him when he helped launch the VW and Kidrobot collaboration on the VW Rabbit. So like any sneaker nerd/Kidrobot freak would do, I got all wide eyed and eagerly screamed "give me give me give me give me!". Researching a bit, it was designed by Bill McMullen and Paul Budnitz. I'm trying to think of what to get Brian because its bad luck in most Asian cultures to receive a gift and not give anything in return.

Deep Sea

I'm in love with deep sea life. National Geographic posted recently a photo slide show of possibly new species found. Click on the link below to see more. I posted some of my favorite. How freakin rad is that little shrimp guy? Can't you see that being an inspiration for some sort of armored vehicle? I always said that if I win the lottery, I'm going to pay my way into a deep sea research vessel and become a crew member. Still stands.

Upcoming Frank Gehry piece in England

I'm a huge fan of Frank Gehry. Then again, most people are. But this model of the Serpentine Gallery Pavillion I feel is a definite evolution of his style. Usually he's curvy, flowing and full of form. This one seems like a collapse suspended in time forever. And as usual, light patterns from the structure will probably be amazing.

Fincher & Jonze & Tarsem

I think the movie "The Cell" could have been so much more but nevertheless, Tarsem did a banging job on the visuals and art direction. He has a new one coming out which seems to have Dave Fincher and Spike Jonze backing it up. Anyone know if Googly Productions is their company? I look forward to this.
